I don’t think Santa wants milk this year. He wants hot cocoa. There is nothing like a steaming cup of hot cocoa on Christmas Eve to warm the tummy. My version has a few twists on the old standby but is easy to make in your crockpot. I combined my love of the spices in chai tea and chocolate. I love using the crockpot so it stays warm for guests throughout the evening festivities. You can even leave it on long after the party and Santa can help himself…..so cute. Enjoy!
Coconut Chai Hot Cocoa
6 cups Whole Milk
14 oz. Coconut Milk (canned, full fat)
14 oz. Sweetened Condensed Milk
1/2 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
4 oz. 60% Bittersweet Chocolate (I used Ghirardelli’s)
1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
3/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon
3/4 Teaspoon Ground Cardamon
1/2 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1/4 Teaspoon Anise Powder
1/4 Teaspoon Ginger Powder
Dash of Ground Pepper
Marshmallows for Topping
Sprinkle of Coconut for Topping (if desired)
Place all the ingredients in a crock pot and stir to combine. Cook on low for 1-2 hours or until flavors meld and the cocoa is hot.
Stir occasionally to make sure the condensed milk is mixed in.
Ladle into cups and serve with marshmallows and a sprinkle of cinnamon and a sprinkle of coconut if desired.
